A Protestation of Integrity

261 Vindicate me, O Lord , for I have walked in my integrity , And I have trusted in the Lord without wavering . 2 Examine me, O Lord , and try me; Test my mind and my heart . 3 For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes , And I have walked in Your truth . 4 I do not sit with deceitful men , Nor will I go with pretenders . 5 I hate the assembly of evildoers , And I will not sit with the wicked .

6 I shall wash my hands in innocence , And I will go about Your altar , O Lord , 7 That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving And declare all Your wonders . 8 O Lord , I love the habitation of Your house And the place where Your glory dwells . 9 Do not take my soul away along with sinners , Nor my life with men of bloodshed , 10 In whose hands is a wicked scheme , And whose right hand is full of bribes . 11 But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity ; Redeem me, and be gracious to me. 12 My foot stands on a level place ; In the congregations I shall bless the Lord .

Praise for Deliverance

401 I waited patiently for the Lord ; And He inclined to me and heard my cry . 2 He brought me up out of the pit of destruction , out of the miry clay , And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm . 3 He put a new song in my mouth , a song of praise to our God ; Many will see and fear And will trust in the Lord . 4 How blessed is the man who has made the Lord his trust , And has not turned to the proud , nor to those who lapse into falsehood . 5 Many , O Lord my God , are the wonders which You have done , And Your thoughts toward us; There is none to compare with You. If I would declare and speak of them, They would be too numerous to count .

6 Sacrifice and meal offering You have not desired ; My ears You have opened ; Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required . 7 Then I said , "Behold , I come ; In the scroll of the book it is written of me. 8 I delight to do Your will , O my God ; Your Law is within my heart ." 9 I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great congregation ; Behold , I will not restrain my lips , O Lord , You know . 10 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart ; I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation ; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great congregation .

11 You, O Lord , will not withhold Your compassion from me; Your lovingkindness and Your truth will continually preserve me. 12 For evils beyond e number have surrounded me; My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see ; They are more numerous than the hairs of my head , And my heart has failed me. 13 Be pleased , O Lord , to deliver me; Make haste , O Lord , to help me. 14 Let those be ashamed and humiliated together Who seek my life to destroy it; Let those be turned back and dishonored Who delight in my hurt . 15 Let those be appalled because e of their shame Who say to me, "Aha , aha !" 16 Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let those who love Your salvation say continually , "The Lord be magnified !" 17 Since I am afflicted and needy , Let the Lord be mindful of me. You are my help and my deliverer ; Do not delay , O my God .

A Prayer for the Punishment of the Wicked

581 Do you indeed speak righteousness , O gods ? Do you judge uprightly , O sons of men ? 2 No , in heart you work unrighteousness ; On earth you weigh out the violence of your hands . 3 The wicked are estranged from the womb ; These who speak lies go astray from birth . 4 They have venom like the venom of a serpent ; Like a deaf cobra that stops up its ear , 5 So that it does not hear the voice of charmers , Or a skillful caster of spells .

6 O God , shatter their teeth in their mouth ; Break out the fangs of the young lions , O Lord . 7 Let them flow away like water that runs off ; When he aims his arrows , let them be as headless shafts . 8 Let them be as a snail which melts away as it goes along, Like the miscarriages of a woman which never see the sun . 9 Before your pots can feel the fire of thorns He will sweep them away with a whirlwind , the green and the burning alike . 10 The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance ; He will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked . 11 And men will say , "Surely there is a reward for the righteous ; Surely there is a God who judges on earth !"

Confidence in God's Protection

611 Hear my cry , O God ; Give heed to my prayer . 2 From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint ; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For You have been a refuge for me, A tower of strength against e the enemy . 4 Let me dwell in Your tent forever ; Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings . Selah .

5 For You have heard my vows , O God ; You have given me the inheritance of those who fear Your name . 6 You will prolong the king's life ; His years will be as many generations . 7 He will abide before God forever ; Appoint lovingkindness and truth that they may preserve him. 8 So I will sing praise to Your name forever , That I may pay my vows day by day .

God the Only Refuge

621 My soul waits in silence for God only ; From Him is my salvation . 2 He only is my rock and my salvation , My stronghold ; I shall not be greatly shaken . 3 How long will you assail a man , That you may murder him, all of you, Like a leaning wall , like a tottering fence ? 4 They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position ; They delight in falsehood ; They bless with their mouth , But inwardly they curse . Selah . 5 My soul , wait in silence for God only , For my hope is from Him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation , My stronghold ; I shall not be shaken . 7 On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength , my refuge is in God .

8 Trust in Him at all times , O people ; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah . 9 Men e of low e degree e are only vanity and men e of rank are a lie ; In the balances they go up; They are together lighter than breath . 10 Do not trust in oppression And do not vainly hope in robbery ; If riches increase , do not set your heart upon them. 11 Once God has spoken ; Twice I have heard this : That power belongs to God ; 12 And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord , For You recompense a man according to his work .

A Prayer for Protection from Hidden Enemies

641 Hear my voice , O God , in my complaint ; Preserve my life from dread of the enemy . 2 Hide me from the secret counsel of evildoers , From the tumult of those who do iniquity , 3 Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword . They aimed bitter speech as their arrow , 4 To shoot from concealment at the blameless ; Suddenly they shoot at him, and do not fear . 5 They hold fast to themselves an evil purpose ; They talk of laying snares secretly ; They say , " Who can see them?" 6 They devise injustices , saying, "We are ready with a well-conceived plot "; For the inward thought and the heart of a man are deep .

7 But God will shoot at them with an arrow ; Suddenly they will be wounded . 8 So they will make him stumble ; Their own tongue is against them; All who see them will shake the head. 9 Then all men will fear , And they will declare the work of God , And will consider what He has done . 10 The righteous man will be glad in the Lord and will take refuge in Him; And all the upright in heart will glory .
