Notre Dame University Owes Him One
Stephen T. Badin was born in Orleans, France. He was the first Catholic priest ordained in the United States, having fled the revolution in France. A frontier priest in Kentucky, he later served in Michigan and also acquired the land in Indiana on which the University of Notre Dame is built.
