Welcome to Christianity.com. My name is Melissa Henderson, and I’m an author of Inspirational Messages. I am a Christian because God first loved me. He chose me to be His child.
Sitting on the living room floor with my daddy is one of my most treasured memories. He would take out our big family Bible, place it on the floor before us, open it up, and read Scripture daily. I was about five years old when he pointed to a verse and said, “This is one you need to remember.” That verse was John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Those were the very first verses my daddy ever shared with me, and they remain the foundation of my faith.
Daddy’s faith wasn’t just spoken—it was lived. I remember standing beside him in church, hearing his deep voice as he sang with passion and love for the Lord. He and Mama lived out their love for God, sharing His goodness with others in word and deed. They taught me that because God loves His creation, He gave His Son, and we should share that truth with others.
I still remember how the Holy Spirit stirred in my heart as a child while Daddy read those words from the Bible. God's presence entered my life and has never left. Yes, I’ve stumbled, strayed, and fallen short, but I’m a Christian, and God loves me still. He forgives me, and I continue to seek His grace daily.
My parents taught me to share God's love in words and actions. Our home was a place of refuge. When people came in need of food, clothing, or comfort, Mama and Daddy opened the door with loving arms, offering provisions, encouragement, and hope in Christ.
Throughout my life, I’ve walked through dark valleys—breast cancer, anxiety, depression, caring for aging parents—and through seasons of joy, like healing, the birth of grandchildren, and the love of family. In all of it, God has never left my side. His presence fills me with comfort and peace that only He can give.
I believe strongly in teaching children about God’s love, just as my parents taught me. It gives them the gift of knowing the Father and walking with Him through every season of life.
Yes, I am a Christian, and that truth brings me deep joy.
Be blessed today, and visit Christianity.com regularly, because God’s not finished with our story. Amen.
