The Offerings at the Appointed Feasts

16 "God's Passover is to be held on the fourteenth day of the first month. 17 On the fifteenth day of this month hold a festival. 18 Begin the first day in holy worship; don't do any regular work that day. 19 Bring a Fire-Gift to God, a Whole-Burnt-Offering: two young bulls, one ram, and seven male yearling lambs - all healthy. 20 Prepare a Grain-Offering of six quarts of fine flour mixed with oil for each bull, four quarts for the ram, 21 and two quarts for each lamb, 22 plus a goat as an Absolution-Offering to atone for you. 23 "Sacrifice these in addition to the regular morning Whole-Burnt-Offering. 24 Prepare the food this way for the Fire-Gift, a pleasing fragrance to God, every day for seven days. Prepare it in addition to the regular Whole-Burnt-Offering and Drink-Offering. 25 "Conclude the seventh day in holy worship; don't do any regular work on that day. 26 "On the Day of Firstfruits when you bring an offering of new grain to God on your Feast-of-Weeks, gather in holy worship and don't do any regular work. 27 Bring a Whole-Burnt-Offering of two young bulls, one ram, and seven male yearling lambs as a pleasing fragrance to God. 28 Prepare a Grain-Offering of six quarts of fine flour mixed with oil for each bull, four quarts for the ram, 29 and two quarts for each lamb, 30 plus a he-goat as an Absolution-Offering to atone for you. 31 "These are all over and above the daily Whole-Burnt-Offering and its Grain-Offering and the Drink-Offering. Remember, the animals must be healthy.

Matthew Henry's Commentary on Numbers 28:16-31

Commentary on Numbers 28:16-31

(Read Numbers 28:16-31)

By the sacrifices enjoined in this chapter, we are reminded of the continued power of the sacrifice of Christ, and of our continual need to depend thereon. No hurrying employments, or perilous situations, or prosperous circumstances, should cause slackness in our religious exercises; but should rather stir us up to greater diligence in seeking help from, or giving thanks to the Lord. And all is to be accompanied with repentance, faith is the Lord Jesus, and love to him, and to produce true holiness in our conduct towards all men; otherwise God will abhor our most solemn services and abundant devotions. And Christ is able to supply the wants of every day, every week, every month, every year, every ordinance, every case.
