Getting Started: Introduction to the Bible Search

The Christianity.com Bible Search provides you with many powerful tools. You can lookup verses by entering a Bible reference, such as Genesis 50 or 1 John 1:9. You can also find verses containing certain words or phrases, such as Jesus Christ or glory of the lord.

The Bible search is available from the Christianity.com home page, the Bible search home page, the Advanced Bible search page, and any of the Bible search result pages.

Passage Search Features

When you're looking for verses by entering a Bible reference (e.g. Genesis 50), we call that a Bible Passage Search.

The Christianity.com Bible Search understands many different Bible reference formats. For example, all of the following are valid passage references:

Finds Ruth chapter 1
Finds Isaiah chapter 40
Finds 1 John chapter 5 verse 12
Finds Romans chapter 12 verses 9 through 21
Finds Acts chapter 4 verses 36 and 37

Word Search Features

When you're looking for verses in the Bible that contain certain words or phrases (e.g. Jesus Christ), we call that a Bible Word Search.

The Christianity.com Bible Word Search will display all passages in your selected translation that contain the word(s) you searched for. By default, we only display passages that contain all of the words you searched for.
