A Husband’s Weekly Prayer Guide for His Wife

Is there any wife who doesn’t need her husband’s prayers? Whether a new bride, the mother of small children, married for decades, or deep in a career, her husband’s prayers are essential for her life, and who better to pray for her than him?

Still, where does a husband begin to pray for his wife? Who is His example?

Jesus is a husband’s perfect example of how men are to pray for their wives, devoting Himself to praying for His Bride, the Church. As Ephesians 5:25 describes, He gave His all for His Bride, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her.”

Jesus’ life was marked by prayer, as Mark 1:35 describes, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”

Even after His death, resurrection, and ascension into Heaven, Jesus continues to pray for His Bride, as Romans 8:34 says, “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.”

A Prayer for Your Wife Every Day of the Week

In following Jesus’ example, every husband is called to pray for his wife, as Christ does for His Bride, the Church.

The following are seven Sunday-Saturday prayers (one for each day of the week) to help husbands pray for their wives, as the Apostle Paul urged in Colossians 4:2, “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

A Sunday Prayer for My Wife

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people”—Ephesians 6:18

Dear Father,

Thank you for the privilege of praying for my wife, for bringing her into my life, and the goodness and favor that comes from You because she is here.

As Proverbs 18:22 explains, “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.”

Lead her with Your Spirit, attune her ears to Your voice, and draw her heart to Your heart.

Help her find her rest in You today, the kind of rest that restores, prepares, and carries her through the coming week, as Hebrews 4:10 describes, “For anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from His.”

Let this be, for her, a day of peaceful contentment, reflection, and gratitude to You.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

A Monday Prayer for My Wife

“I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers”—2 Timothy 1:3

Dear Father,

Thank you, Lord, for my wife, for the gift she is in my life. Before the sun even rises this morning, bless her as she sleeps, before the beginning of her new day and week.

Let her wake up rested, refreshed, and with joyful expectation for the hours and days to come.

Encourage her as she awakens, begins her morning routine, and takes on the work before her.

Go before her in everything she does today and be her rear guard, watching over and protecting her as she prepares for the work ahead of her. Strengthen her spiritually, emotionally, and physically for the tasks before her.

Lead her as she looks forward to the coming hours today, direct her steps as she goes through her day, guiding her in which way to turn as Your word says in Isaiah 30:21, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

A Tuesday Prayer for My Wife

With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of His calling, and that by His power He may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith”—2 Thessalonians1:11

Dear Father,

Guide my wife’s hands today in the work she does at home, with our family, her career, and out in the world. Let it be satisfying to her and pleasing to You.

Let her stand out today and every day, in all that she does, at home and out in the marketplace, as a woman of noble character, with a kind, compassionate heart and open hands that generously give to meet the needs of others. As Proverbs 31:10 describes, “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.”

Prepare a way for her to accomplish the tasks You’ve given her, filling her with Your wisdom and insight. As written in Proverb 2:6, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

Let the work of her hands satisfy her and bring honor and glory to You through all that she does.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

A Wednesday Prayer for My Wife

“In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy”—Philippians 1:4

Dear Father,

Draw my wife close to You today and every day. Keep her heart soft and tender, full of love for You, me, and our family. Let Your love, joy, and peace lead her in all that she does.

Fill her heart to overflowing with Your joy and let it be the strength of her life, keeping her turned toward and focused on You, free from worldly deceit and philosophies. Let her heart be ready and willing to freely forgive, remembering how You have forgiven her.

Keep her mind steadfast and stayed on You, as Isaiah 26:3 encourages. “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.”

Watch over, guard, and protect her heart from being beaten up, bruised, and crushed by the weight of the world. Help her to do as Proverbs 4:23 instructs, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

A Thursday Prayer for My Wife

“I always thank my God for you because of His grace given you in Christ Jesus”—1 Corinthians 1:4

Dear Father,

Thank you for my wife, for the faith she has in You and the love she gives to me and to our family. Let Your beauty be upon and rest in her from the inside out.

Today, Lord, I ask You to give her the desires and longings of her heart, meeting her deepest needs and longings, beyond what she can think or imagine.

Lead her to do, as Psalm 37:4 directs, to “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

As You do, help me to encourage her in the gifts and callings You have given her here on earth and to support her in all that she does for Your honor and glory in her life.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

A Friday Prayer for My Wife

“Pray continually”— Thessalonians 5:17

Dear Father,

Help me to continually keep my wife in my prayers. Lead me in how to pray and when to pray for her throughout the day and night.

You know when she sits and when she rises, as Psalm 139:2 assures, “You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.”

You know the paths she takes as Job 23:10 describes, “But he knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.”

Continue, O Lord, to watch over her comings and her goings, as Psalm 121:8 says, “The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

Soften my wife’s heart today as she finishes up the week. Comfort, restore, renew, and refresh her heart from any failures or disappointments she may have faced during the week.

Let her hope be always in You. As Psalm 31:24 proclaims, lead her to “Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.”

Let Your words encourage her in all she has accomplished, and let her look forward to ending the week feeling satisfied with what she has done.

Help her to enjoy the weekend by leading her to participate in activities that renew, refresh, and restore her from the past week.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

A Saturday Prayer for My Wife

“You will pray to Him, and He will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows”—Job 22:27

Dear Father,

Thank You for hearing my prayers for my wife and for helping me to fulfill my marriage vows to You and to her.

Give her a day today that helps her to fulfill all that she has her heart and mind set on doing this Saturday. Let her enjoy whatever she chooses to do and fulfill Proverbs 31:27, as “She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”

If she’s hoping for a change of pace from her usual Saturday schedule, I ask You to open doors of opportunities for her to discover and participate in new opportunities.

Or, if she’s hoping to settle in at home for a cozy, warm day with her family in her favorite spots, help us to be responsive and facilitate her plans.

Let her Saturday be fulfilling to her heart and mind in whatever way she chooses to spend it.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

A Husband's Call to Pray for His Wife

So for every husband who doesn’t know where to start in praying for his wife, let these prayers help you to begin. As you do, God will lead you in praying for your wife, and not only will your wife be blessed and benefit from your prayers, but so will you.

As 1 Peter 3:7 encourages, “Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.”

God has lovingly given you a wife to be your companion, to help you, and to honor you. Because He has given you care over her, He also calls you to pray for her, knowing her life reflects who you are as a husband and as a believer in Jesus Christ.

As 1 Corinthians 11:7 explains, “A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.”
