Parenting by Design - October 7

Embracing the diversity of gifts and perspectives within our families can lead to innovative problem-solving and creative thinking, as each member brings their unique strengths to the table. By letting go of our need for control and allowing our children to shine, we can unlock their full potential and discover new solutions that might have gone unnoticed otherwise.

Encouraging and Allowing Creativity

Romans 12:4-6: Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.  We have different gifts, according to the grace given us (NIV).

As parents, we may insist things be done our way just because we automatically assume our way is the best. In doing so, however, we discourage the development of problem-solving skills and creative thinking in our kids. Inadvertently, we devalue their unique perspective and gifts. It may take more time and effort to try a different approach, but you may be surprised at the solutions your kids come up with. God has gifted each of us differently and every member of our family has something unique to offer. Ask yourself where your kids possess skills and abilities you may not have.

A godly leader has the humility to allow his kids to shine and doesn't have to be the resident expert.
