Read: Song Of Songs 3

Key Verse: “Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and by the does of the field: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.” - Song Of Songs 3:5

Timing is very important in love. There is a time to listen, a time to share what is intimate, a time to ask for help, and a time to take risks. When it comes to love, do not rush it. God says to keep the wedding bed pure and do not sleep together until there is a marriage covenant. This covenant is first with God and also the other person. Do not physically rush into touching or intimacy. Sadly, it has become normal to sin but it is still wrong. Waiting on the physical allows you to discern the quality of the relationship. Sex can blind you.

There is also wisdom in waiting with emotional attachment. If someone is dating at 14, there will be many years before marriage so go slowly. If someone has had a break up, take time to heal before jumping into the next relationship. If someone is aggressively pursuing you, tell them the pace is too fast. Make sure the person you date is approved by God and is devoted to Him. Guard your heart. Do not compromise or lower your standards. A healthy relationship will bring out your best, help you draw closer to God, and honor God’s timing. Love is not just feelings, it involves clear decisions about timing and wise boundaries.
