8 He put the Breastpiece on him and put the Urim and Thummim in the pouch of the Breastpiece. 9 He placed the turban on his head with the gold plate fixed to the front of it, the holy crown, just as God had commanded Moses. 10 Then Moses took the anointing oil and anointed The Dwelling and everything that was in it, consecrating them. 11 He sprinkled some of the oil on the Altar seven times, anointing the Altar and all its utensils, the Washbasin and its stand, consecrating them. 12 He poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron's head, anointing him and thus consecrating him. 13 Moses brought Aaron's sons forward and put tunics on them, belted them with sashes, and put caps on them, just as God had commanded Moses.
14 Moses brought out the bull for the Absolution-Offering. Aaron and his sons placed their hands on its head. 15 Moses slaughtered the bull and purified the Altar by smearing the blood on each of the horns of the Altar with his finger. He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the Altar. He consecrated it so atonement could be made on it. 16 Moses took all the fat on the entrails and the lobe of liver and the two kidneys with their fat and burned it all on the Altar 17 . The bull with its hide and meat and guts he burned outside the camp, just as God had commanded Moses. 18 Moses presented the ram for the Whole-Burnt-Offering. Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. 19 Moses slaughtered it and splashed the blood against all sides of the Altar. 20 He cut the ram up into pieces and then burned the head, the pieces, and the fat. 21 He washed the entrails and the legs with water and then burned the whole ram on the Altar. It was a Whole-Burnt-Offering, a pleasing fragrance - a gift to God, just as God had commanded Moses.

The consecration of Aaron and his sons had been delayed until the tabernacle had been prepared, and the laws of the sacrifices given. Aaron and his sons were washed with water, to signify that they ought to purify themselves from all sinful dispositions, and ever after to keep themselves pure. Christ washes those from their sins in his own blood whom he makes kings and priests to our God, Hebrews 10:22. The anointing of Aaron was to typify the anointing of Christ with the Spirit, which was not given by measure to him. All believers have received the anointing.

In these types we see our great High Priest, even Christ Jesus, solemnly appointed, anointed, and invested with his sacred office, by his own blood, and the influences of his Holy Spirit. He sanctifies the ordinances of religion, to the benefit of his people and the honour of God the Father; who for his sake accepts our worship, though it is polluted with sin. We may also rejoice, that he is a merciful and faithful High Priest, full of compassion to the feeble-minded and tempest-tossed soul. All true Christians are consecrated to be spiritual priests. We should seriously ask ourselves, whether in our daily walk we study to maintain this character? and abound in spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Christ? If so, still there is no cause for boasting. Let us not despise our fellow-sinners; but remembering what we have done, and how we are saved, let us seek and pray for their salvation.
