Why Pray on Pentecost?
"Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!" ~ Psalm 107:1
It is righteous to give thanks to God for all things, and especially the glorious day of Pentecost that established the Body of Christ, the Christian church. Let us pray in thanksgiving to God the Father, our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit for the day of Pentecost.
On Pentecost, we should pray in thanksgiving and supplication that the Holy Spirit will lead us and bless our evangelism of the Holy gospel.

Pentecost in the Bible
The second chapter of Acts opens by describing the descent of the Holy Spirit onto the Apostles, giving them the gift to speak different languages needed to evangelize, "to speak in other tongues":
"When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance." ~ Acts 2:1-4
The coming of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles was foretold by Christ in the book of John:
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you." ~ John 14:26
In Peter's sermon on the day of Pentecost, he declares the promise of mercy and salvation for those who repent and are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ:
"And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself." ~ Acts 2:38
A Prayer for Pentecost Sunday
Oh God, on this day you taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending them the light of your Holy Spirit.
By that same Spirit give us a right judgment in all things that we may always rejoice in His holy comfort;
through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and forever. Amen
A Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit, You are God. I praise you because you are holy, and I thank you for dwelling in my heart. Thank you for working in my life. You guided me into salvation, renewed my dead spirit, and you opened my eyes to the Truth. Thank you.
Help me to see you more clearly – to recognize your movement in my life. Make me more sensitive to you so I can follow you more closely. Still, I know that I am selfish and rebellious. I need you to help me be obedient when I recognize your leading. I need you.
I ask you for your help and comfort today. You know my pain and anxieties very well. Thank you for praying over me. Help me to rest in your comfort today.
Help me to walk in you, the Spirit of God. Grow good fruit in my life. You are the one who produces these in me: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I cannot live out these things on my own; I need you. Amen

A Prayer of Thanks to God
God, thank you for your great love and blessing over our lives. Thank you that your favor has no end, but it lasts for our entire lifetime. Forgive us for sometimes forgetting that you are intimately acquainted with all of our ways, that you know what concerns us, and you cover us as with a shield.
We ask that we would walk in your blessing and goodness today. That your face would shine on us. That you would open the right doors for our lives and for our loved ones, that you would close the wrong doors and protect us from those we need to walk away from.
Establish the work of our hands and bring to fulfillment all that you have given us to do in our life. We pray that you would make our way purposeful and our footsteps firm out of your goodness and love. Give us a heart of wisdom to hear your voice, and make us strong by your huge favor and grace.
