John Crist Hilariously Nails the Clichés in ‘Every Christian Music Video’
John Crist hilariously nailed the clichés in “Every Christian Music Video.” The popular funnyman, with a ton of wit and even more humor, pointed out everything – the scenes, camera movements and even the types of actors – found in almost every Christian music video. Watch the short but hilarious clip to see John, with spot-on accuracy, mention and poke fun at all the clichés included in music videos from Christian music artists.
Stand-up comedy may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Everyone has their likes, dislikes, tastes and preferences. But comedians are valuable, much-needed members of society. Those men and women often point out absurdities in everyday life while using humor and comedic timing. Frequently, their hilarious observations come from situations or things we’ve encountered but have never stopped to think about and consider.
Comedy also allows us to make fun of ourselves. No one wants to be around someone who takes themselves too seriously and can’t take a joke, and that’s precisely what John did in a video posted on social media. John, who is a Christian, in the official music video for his song “Every Christian Music Video,” mentioned all the clichés you’re likely to see in, well, Christian music videos, and he’s 100 percent spot-on!
While singing, John points out how many Christian music videos choose to shoot the opening scenes, which often include a husband and wife fighting, in black and white. He then proceeds to sing what each does after their blowup – she stares at a picture of the family, while the husband gazes outside at a dark, stormy scene.
John’s lyrics are absolutely hilarious!
“Nobody knows what the fight’s about today
But it must be something serious
There’s lots of bills to pay”
John’s song and video will have you doubled over with laughter because of how hysterically accurate his assessments are about nearly everything in Christian music videos and songs today.
Proverbs 17:22 “A glad heart makes a healthy body, but a crushed spirit makes the bones dry.”

See lyrics below:
verse one is always shot in black and white
an unhappy couple in the middle of a fight
she’s looking at a photo
he’s looking out the window
rain drops always make things much more sad
that doesn’t even rhyme though
nobody knows what the fight’s about today
but it must be something serious
there’s lots of bills to pay
a mildly attractive actress is a must
but not too hot to make the men stumble or lust
three chords and a mid tempo
gonna try to rhyme this i know
and if we can’t then we’ll just sing ooooh
is there cussing in the song? Heck no!
Cause it’s safe for the family
positive, encouraging radio
this is every christian music video
verse two he’s climbing in his truck and leaving
becky stays at home and she’s overwhelmed and grieving
he’s passing a liquor store oh no
pill bottles on the floor
so we can’t show a christian drinking a beer
but prescription drug abuse is actually way worse
so that doesn’t really make any sense anyway but ok
it’s mainly soccer moms listening to us
so we had to make it clear
that it’s the man who things up— I said messed
three chords and a mid tempo
found this on vrbo
here’s a diversity cameo another one
is there cussing in the song? heck no
cause it’s safe for the family
positive encouraging radio
this is every christian music video
he finds a bible when he opens up the drawer
and somehow now he’s in a church from 1864
the moral of the story is it works out in the end
cause he tells her that he loves her and he’ll never sin again
yeah he tells her that he loves her and he’ll never sin again amen
three chords and a mid tempo
v-neck so my tattoos show
everybody’s singing in a happy home
did they see a therapist? heck no
but they’re back in church front row
looking perfect in the instagram post
this is every christian music video
