Sacred Work in Ordinary Moments
Your Nightly Prayer

TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." — Colossians 3:23–24 (NIV)
SOMETHING TO PONDER
I used to believe that unless my work had a title, a platform, or a paycheck, it wasn’t truly important. As a mom, a writer, and someone often behind the scenes, I wondered whether my daily efforts mattered to God. Folding laundry, making another grocery run, prepping meals, responding to emails—none of it felt especially “spiritual.” When someone would ask, “What do you do?” I’d often answer with a quiet, “Oh, I just stay at home,” or “I just write sometimes.” But over time, God began to gently highlight that the word just was robbing sacred work of its eternal significance.
Colossians 3 reminded me that God doesn’t require titles or fanfare. He sees the unseen, small acts of obedience—every diaper changed, every dish washed, every encouraging text sent—and counts them as worship when done with a heart for Him. God isn’t impressed by platforms; He’s moved by faithfulness. And when we show up with wholehearted service, even in the ordinary, He promises that our reward comes from Him, not people.
At one point, I measured the value of my work by visible results: Was my child happier? Did my blog get shares? Did the dinner turn out well? But the Lord began to shift my perspective through Scripture. He reminded me of people like Ruth, Mary, Nehemiah, and countless others whose lives may not have looked flashy, but were faithful. God used their faithfulness in “small” things to change history.
Now, I’m learning to view everything I do—writing, cooking, encouraging a friend, wiping down countertops—as an offering. Work is no longer divided into “sacred” and “secular.” It’s all sacred when surrendered to the Lord. While I still have days when I feel invisible or ineffective, I now rest in the truth that God sees and values my work. It matters—not because of who sees it, but because of who I’m doing it for.
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
Lord,
Thank you for giving me meaningful work, even when it feels small or unnoticed. Help me to remember that when I work with all my heart, I’m ultimately serving You. Forgive me for the times I’ve looked for affirmation from others instead of resting in Your approval. Give me strength when I feel weary, and help me see my daily tasks as worship. Let my ordinary offerings become holy in Your hands. Tonight, as I lay down to rest, renew my purpose and remind me that my labor in You is never in vain.
