Thirsty

Today's reading: Psalm 42:2

"My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?" (Psalm 42:2)

One of things I love about David's writing is how he uses common, everyday experiences to describe his feelings for and about God, and what living for God looks like. So when we read at the start of Psalm 42:2, "My soul thirsts for God," memories of times we’ve been thirsty come to mind—how we feel when we’re outside on a hot summer day, after a vigorous workout, while we’re eating a meal, when we wake up in the morning. And those memories, through association, then help us better understand how we should feel about God. In other words, we should desire and crave God just like we desire and crave water.

Think about and recall a time when you were thirsty. Based on that memory, would you say that you are "thirsty" for God? Describe what you think being thirsty for God should look like on a day-to-day basis? Tami
