A New Song

Today's reading: Psalm 144:1-15

David is praising the Lord throughout Psalm 144 but also asking for protection and deliverance from foreign enemies. And as part of his praise and recognition of God's greatness he says this right in the middle of the Psalm: "I will sing a new song to you, O God" (vs. 9). As I thought about this verse it made me realize how my praise can turn into a routine and lose some of its vigor, particularly if I'm not being intentional about it. So if I'm singing a "new" song, that would require a fresh and focused effort on my part, which I know would be pleasing to God.

So how about offering God a new song (an actual song, maybe a prayer or a poem) this weekend? Whatever you do, just make it part of your communicating with Him. And, as always, I'd love to hear about your experience. Tami
