Parenting by Design - March 10

As Joshua's leadership was tested, his early mentors' prayers proved crucial to his success, highlighting the transformative power of intercession for those in positions of authority. By praying for our leaders, we can tap into a similar divine guidance and support, just as Corrie Ten Boom wisely observed that prayer is either our primary steering wheel or spare tire.

Praying for our leaders

Josh. 1:16-17: Then they answered Joshua, "Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you as he was with Moses" (NIV).

Joshua was well trained by Moses when he took over leadership of the nation of Israel, but that was no guarantee of success. In fact, Joshua failed when he acted without first seeking God's counsel (see Josh. 9). To encourage him, the leaders of the tribes prayed for him, saying, "Only may the Lord your God be with you as he was with Moses."

We can do no better thing for our leaders than to pray for them. This includes leaders at every level of our society, including our families. No believer can succeed at God's work apart from prayer. It is one of those great mysteries of the Christian life. Corrie Ten Boom asked, "Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?"

Lead your kids in prayer for their leaders, including you.
