Jesus’s Holiness
By David Chadwick

Jesus was God in human flesh. His glory rested behind the veil of his humanity. He was the second Adam (Romans 5:12-21). He never sinned. He was the perfect Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world.

Jesus was perfectly holy.

Why is this important?

Jesus is a type of Adam before the fall. He shows us what God wanted humanity to be. When we place our lives against the backdrop of his, we realize how great our sin is and how far short we have fallen of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

We should then cry out to God, “What must I do to be saved?”

When you arise in the morning, you look in the mirror and might note a few new wrinkles and gray hairs. But should you go to a motel where there are bright lightbulbs surrounding the mirror, you would see every wrinkle and gray hair. The bright lights expose every facial flaw.

That’s what Jesus’s holiness does as well. In the light of his perfect nature, he exposes our sin. He forces us to seek a solution, a Savior, for all our imperfections.

Realizing Jesus’s holiness and our gross sinfulness before him leads us to the cross where we find forgiveness and grace.

Never underestimate the importance of this truth.
