The Creator . . . or Created? Shaping Your Life

Today's Scripture

"And that means killing off everything connected with that way of death: sexual promiscuity, impurity, lust, doing whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it, and grabbing whatever attracts your fancy. That's a life shaped by things and feelings instead of by God." - Colossians 3:5 MSG

Thoughts for Today

In today's world, much of society is being shaped by selfishness. Do your own thing. Be your own person. Determine for yourself what is right and wrong. If we are not careful, our life will be shaped by that kind of attitude. But anything that becomes self-serving is an idol. It's my way—not God's way. It's all about me—not about Him.

But today's scripture makes it clear that doing whatever we feel like whenever we feel like it, is not pleasing to our Lord. "That's a life shaped by things and feelings instead of by God."

Consider this …

What is shaping your life? The desire to please other people? The desire to please yourself? Or the desire to please God.

For our life to be shaped by God, we must first want to put Him first. Then we must seek Him daily. Through the Bible. Through prayer. Through seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Are you ready to make that commitment in every area of your life? Maybe you are turning to Him for most—things but are still holding out wanting things your way in a few areas. He wants your whole heart. Are you ready to give it?

Father, I know some areas of my life are still being shaped by my wants. Sometimes I'm more influenced by other people than by You. Please forgive me and help me seek your will above all else. In Jesus' name …

Lessons Learned: Moving from Homosexuality to Holiness by Tammy Webb-Witholt. This group study offers biblical tools, along with an abundance of hope, to anyone struggling with homosexuality. It is also a great group for anyone desiring a deeper walk with God. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups, and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a personal study.
