When adversity comes it’s easy to give up on the mission to weather the storm. Nehemiah, however, understood the importance of staying focused on the mission regardless of the surrounding circumstances.
In Nehemiah 4 the enemies of the Jews were trying to undermine Nehemiah’s mission of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. They were threatening to attack. Rather than give up the work, Nehemiah stayed focused on his purpose and prepared his men for battle.
In Nehemiah 4:16 we read, “From that day on, half of my men did the work, while the other half were equipped with spears, shields, bows and armor.”
Nehemiah knew finishing the work was the best defense. If you’re facing adversity in your work, don’t get distracted and give up the mission. Instead, keep pushing forward.
