Examples to the Flock
By: Rick Boxx
July 25, 2013

A servant leader is someone who humbly serves their team. One of the defining moments in Jesus’ ministry was when he served by washing the feet of His disciples. But Jesus, in addition to serving, also talked about being a good shepherd.

A shepherd is one who leads, but he also feeds, protects, and cares for his sheep with a servant’s heart. Jesus was both a good shepherd and a servant leader.

1 Peter 5 teaches, “Shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; …nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.”

A good shepherd leads, but their humble example reveals the heart of a servant leader.
