Scared to Sell

My first commercial lending job in banking required that I also be actively involved in sales. I was scared to death to go out and make “cold calls” on businesses asking them to bank with us.

Fortunately, my first sales opportunity came as the bank decided to do a door-to-door blitz in groups of two. They paired me up with another young salesperson who was just as scared as me.

Having a peer along gave us both courage and helped us to learn from each other.

Ecclesiastes 4 teaches, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”
