Generosity God’s Way
By Rick Boxx
December 16, 2011

Generosity can be overdone if not driven by the proper motivation. An acquaintance of mine was so convicted by the biblical account of the rich young ruler, who Jesus directed to sell all that he had, that he determined to do likewise.

He became consumed with giving away his wealth. God only knows, but it seemed at times that his motivation was more about getting to zero, than it was funding God’s plan. He reportedly gave away over $5 million.

Tragically, many who received money, funded drug habits and other poor behaviors. For some, his money did more harm than good.

Proverbs 16:2 teaches, “All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord.”

It’s important to be generous, but do it God’s way.
