The Unsinkable Ship

In 1910, according to historyonthenet.com, the White Star Line’s brochure praised their Olympic and Titanic ships, including the statement, “these two wonderful vessels are designed to be unsinkable.”

By the maiden voyage of the Titanic in 1912 the ship’s reputation became such that a deckhand reportedly said, “God himself could not sink this ship!”

On April 15, 1912, the White Star Line headquarters was notified that the Titanic was in trouble. A Vice President replied, “We place absolute confidence in the Titanic. We believe the boat is unsinkable.” The ship had already sunk.

Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

In business, we can be grateful to God for the quality of our work but believing we’re invincible is a recipe for disaster.
