 Watch Your Step
This devotional was written by Kelly McFadden

Guard your heart above all else for it determines the course of your life. Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet and stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil. —Proverbs 4:23, 25-27

A social worker told her colleagues about a young boy who had badly twisted and distorted legs as a result of a car accident. He had not received proper medical care and was now unable to walk. She pursued the case and took the boy to an orthopedist, who performed surgery on both legs. Two years later the boy walked into her office without crutches.

However, it was with sadness that she told her colleagues about where the boy was now. He is in prison for committing a crime. She realized that she had been instrumental in teaching him to walk again, but there had been no one there to teach him where to walk. No one pointed him to Jesus.

There are many ways to walk away from truth, but only one way to walk to the Truth…Jesus. In the proverb above, Solomon tells us to guard our heart above all other things. It is easy to get distracted by wants and desires in this life. We must be careful to keep our eyes focused on our goal; the best thing we can focus our eyes on is Jesus.

GOING DEEPER:

1. What are areas in your life that keep you on the right path?

2. How can you give those areas to the Lord to keep your feet pointed towards Jesus?
