Hands-On Faith - Week of June 28

Focus on the Family's Hands-on Faith for Families encourages families to show kindness to one another, just as God shows kindness to us. By incorporating simple acts of kindness into daily life, such as helping with tasks and complimenting others' efforts, families can demonstrate the love of Christ and cultivate a culture of compassion and gentleness.

Hands-on Faith for Families – week of June 28, 2021

Theme: Be Kind as God Is Kind

Showing Kindness to Others

Scripture: Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (Colossians 3:12)

Play: Before mealtime, have each family member gather five shirts. Any style will work. The idea is to have a stash of shirts to pull from.

As you prepare for dinner — setting the table, filling drinks, serving food — kindly offer to help one another with tasks. You may also compliment a task well done: “Wow, Mom! This smells great.” As you are kind to another member of your family, put on one of your shirts. The goal is to put on all your shirts.

Talk: Each shirt you put on was a symbol of kindness you showed to a member of your family. You were demonstrating the action of Colossians 3:12. In that verse, God tells us to clothe ourselves with kindness. As you did and said kind things, you were showing kindness that comes from God.

Pray: Thank God for your family and friends. Ask Him to help you always treat other people with kindness.
