Detailed Preparations

Luke 22:7-13

My wife Mary is a planner. For example, we just had some special friends come in from Alabama to see the Tide roll over the Trojans at Jerry’s World. For brunch Mary had fabulous blueberry pancakes (the blueberries were even picked on a visit to Tuscaloosa), eggs and bacon. And then for a late lunch before taking off for the evening game, she had pulled pork tacos, complete with sautéed veggies, shredded Mo-Jack, tomatoes, fresh chopped lettuce, avocado, and hot sauce, the real thing. These kinds of occasions mean a lot to us, and Mary’s planning, down to the minutest detail, is what produces the beauty, the elegance, and the memory. If all this was up to me, all you would get to eat was a “big idea.”  I’m not into the details, but Jesus is.

It was the last Passover He would have with His disciples until He enjoyed one in heaven with them. So He sent ahead two of His trusted disciples to get all the details right in advance. After all, they were going to celebrate far more than Israel’s deliverance from slavery in Egypt.

“Now the day of Unleavened Bread came, the time when the Passover lamb was to be sacrificed. So Jesus sent Peter and John, ‘Go prepare the Passover for us so we can eat.’ ‘Where do you want us to make preparations?’ they asked.

‘See, when you are entering the city, you will meet a man carrying a jar of water. Follow him into the house where he enters and speak to the owner of the house. ‘The Teacher says, ‘Where’s the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ He will show you a large upper room, furnished and ready for you to make the final preparations.’

They left and found things just as He said, and they prepared the Passover.”  Luke 22:7-13

LORD, Sunday at Agape Fellowship it was so meaningful to again begin the month celebrating the communion meal that you inaugurated at this Passover. Thanks for how they attended to details, right down to the white clothes the attendants wore as they passed us the elements, but thank you far more that You carried out every detail predicted in the Jewish Scripture about Your death as the Passover Lamb.
