This past Thursday I sat down to lunch with my friend, Dr. Ramesh Richard. Whenever I begin to doubt the power of Jesus to multiply his impact as the global population balloons, I think about how the Spirit of God is using my colleague. In 2005 RREACH, Ramesh’s evangelistic and training organization, held its first Global Proclamation Academy(GPA).
For three weeks 25 young pastors from 25 countries in the developing world trained in the heat of a Dallas June, coached by mature leaders who knew the Word, had internalized it in their own lives, and were discerning in how to connect in different cultures.
Eleven years later, on June 15, 2016, 2,500 leaders came to Bangkok, Thailand, from 101 countries for the first Global Proclamation Congress for Pastoral Trainers. When they left, these graduates had committed themselves to reproducing the training they had received through RREACH in Dallas by personally training, on average, 25 more pastors in their own countries, and to generate two pastoral trainers who could mentor others.
Back in the first century in the early 40s when the Apostle Peter had to flee Herod Agrippa I and the Jerusalem Church had already buried two of their gifted young leaders, what chance did this small sect within first century Judaism have to make an impact on the world?
In Acts we discover who makes the difference. God took Stephen and James home, but he delivered Peter, and he has two gifted evangelists named Barnabas and Saul who will soon be launched from Antioch into Asia. The Lord has even given them a young associate for them to mentor, the young man whose mom owned the home where the church gathered to pray for Peter’s release.
“Now the Word of God grew and multiplied. Barnabas and Saul returned to Antioch from Jerusalem having completed their task of bringing the offering for the famine relief. They took John, also called Mark, with them.” Acts 12:24-25
When we finished our sandwiches, Ramesh asked me to pray for him and especially that visas would come through for the 25 pastors seeking to come for the training in Dallas this June. I ask you to join us as we pray that red tape would be eliminated, visas would be granted, and that all 25 pastors will be able to receive this strategic training for three weeks in June. RREACH needs volunteers to help with this event and financial investment. Check it out.
LORD, my friend has emptied himself out. Pour strength into his soul as he prepares for the GPA in Dallas this June, prepares his media outreach for July and August, and, Lord, protect his family.
