Step out in faith... Sunday, November 12th 2017
There are always legitimate seeming reasons why we can’t give our time, talent, and treasures to encourage the community of faith. Reading through the interaction of Jacob and his brother we see that Jacob had a deep seeded motivation behind what seemed to be, legitimate reasons, why not to go with Esau… FEAR!
But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are weak, and the flocks and herds which are nursing are with me. And if the men should drive them hard one day, all the flock will die. 14 Please let my lord go on ahead before his servant. I will lead on slowly at a pace which the livestock that go before me, and the children, are able to endure, until I come to my lord in Seir.” 15 And Esau said, “Now let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.” But he said, “What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.” 16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir. 17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, built himself a house, and made booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
We don’t see in the Bible that Jacob ever went to visit his brother after this passage of Scripture. He made excuses and turned the other way. Is God asking you to do something specific right now? Are you being called to take a step of faith? Quit making excuses and make the decision now to do whatever God is laying on your heart.
Maybe God is laying it on your heart to get baptized? Maybe God is urging you to start serving in your local body? Maybe God is asking you to start to tithe or give an offering? Whatever that nudging of God’s Spirit in your life is, don’t allow fear to lead, but faith.
Life Lesson: We are called to step out in faith, not step back out of fear.
Thank You for challenging me to trust You more. Give me the strength to step out in that area You are calling me to. I am thankful for the leading of Your Holy Spirit. I am thankful for You working in and through my life. In Jesus name, AMEN!
Living to tell what He died to say,
