URGENT: You Can Help Hurricane Florence Victims, Here's How...

Sharp Tongues - Activate - March 29, 2015

Read: Psalm 64

Key Verse: “They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their words like deadly arrows.” - Psalm 64:3

People can hurt you with their words intentionally or unintentionally. David describes the conspirators and their attacks. Their main weapon is the tongue. As a recipient of their abuse, David’s pain is deep. Even for a brave warrior like David, words strike his heart. How do you overcome such opposition and cruelty?

Here are some practical options: 1) Ask God for His protection as David does in this psalm. 2) Be honest with God about your suffering and ask for His comfort.

3) Create additional physical or relational distance in toxic relationships. 4) Ask the person who is communicating with you if they could re-phrase their statement because it was hurtful. This takes vulnerability and is best when there is trust or you perceive the harm was unintentional. David closes the psalm by reminding us to stay morally upright during an attack and to take refuge in the Lord.
