Hearing God Speak

by Berni Dymet

2 Tim. 3:16,17 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.

People often ask me - How can I hear God speak to me? It's a really common question. Lots of people want to hear God speak.

Because they yearn after Him - they don't just want to read about Him or hear about Him, they want to know Him.

So I ask them - how often do you read your Bible? What almost always follows is an embarrassed silence.

You may have heard me say this before, but let me say it again. The idea of reading this Bible thing used to be such a turn-off for me.

Give me a break?

But when I was young in my faith - a dear friend Phil - convinced me that spending time in God's Word was an essential daily habit. He was a good guy … so I humored Him.

That was 15 years ago, and I'm still reading it. Most days. And that one thing - more than any other - is what's changed my life, because through it - God speaks.
