¹⁰ but the official told Daniel, "I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your[1] food and drink. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? The king would then have my head because of you."

¹⁰ and the commander of the officials said to Daniel , "I am afraid of my lord the king , who has appointed your food and your drink ; for why should he see your faces looking more haggard than the youths who are your own age ? Then you would [2]make me forfeit my head to the king ."

¹⁰ but he warned him, "I'm afraid of what my master the king will do. He is the one who assigned this diet and if he sees that you are not as healthy as the rest, he'll have my head!"

¹⁰ But he responded, "I am afraid of my lord the king, who has ordered that you eat this food and wine. If you become pale and thin compared to the other youths your age, I am afraid the king will have me beheaded."
