God's Presence Is a Promise

A drawing of a choir singing, each member with upraised arms.

One of the greatest promises of the Bible, is the last one Jesus gave, after his resurrection and prior to his return to heaven. “And be sure of this,” he told his disciples. “I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Notice that he didn’t say “I’m with you sometimes.” Nor did he say, “I’m there most of the time.” He said “I am with you always.” So whether you’re depressed, angry, confused, hungry, sick, or penniless, Jesus is still with you. No matter what’s going on in your life, he is close to you. While it’s great to have a friend by your side when life is difficult, it’s even better to have Someone unfazed by the darkness around you. Even in the midst of it, Christ will be your shelter and your joy.

No matter how you’re feeling right now, why not enter God’s holy presence by singing his praises? Lift up your voice and express your confidence that he is near and that he will show you the way of life.

Promises in Scripture

You will show me the way of life,
granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever. Psalm 16:11

How great is the goodness
you have stored up for those who fear you.
You lavish it on those who come to you for protection,
blessing them before the watching world.
You hide them in the shelter of your presence,
safe from those who conspire against them.
You shelter them in your presence,
far from accusing tongues. Psalm 31:19-20

I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence!
If I go up to heaven, you are there;
if I go down to the grave, you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning,
if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
even there your hand will guide me,
and your strength will support me.
I could ask the darkness to hide me
and the light around me to become night—
but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.
To you the night shines as bright as day.
Darkness and light are the same to you. Psalm 139:7-12

Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."  Matthew 28:20

Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God's presence. Ephesians 3:12
