Living with Great Expectations | Your Nightly Prayer
“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” — Psalm 27:13, NIV There’s something powerful about living with great expectations. Not the kind tied to our timelines or demands, but the kind anchored in the goodness and faithfulness of God. The kind that looks at a closed door and still believes He’s up to something good. The kind that keeps showing up in prayer, even when nothing changes. The kind that expects beauty from ashes—not because of wishful thinking, but because of a deep faith in the One who promises to redeem every moment. But let’s be honest: it’s not always easy. Expectations are vulnerable. They expose hope. And when doors stay shut, when the job doesn't come through, when the season drags on longer than we anticipated, we start to lower those expectations—not because we don’t believe God can, but because we’re afraid He won’t. That’s why the enemy loves to attack your hope in the waiting. He whispers lies like, “Nothing will ever change,” or “You’ll be stuck here forever.” He wants to steal your faith, rob your joy, and tempt you to abandon your prayer in the waiting. But today, let’s stand on the truth: God is faithful. His timing is perfect. His promises are sure. Maybe you're praying for a new opportunity, a job, a breakthrough, or a fresh start. Maybe you're weary from years of hoping, knocking, and seeking. Friend, don’t give up. Lift your eyes. Speak your daily prayer with expectancy, not fear. Offer your prayer of thanks for God’s promises, even before they come to pass. Because living with great expectations isn’t about demanding a specific outcome. It’s about trusting a specific God—the One who opens doors no one can shut, who works all things for good, and who delights in blessing His children beyond what they can ask or imagine.
