Proverbs 17:1

There’s something to be said about people who can bite their tongue in this day and age. I used to be really good at choosing my words wisely. But the older I get, the more I think I know. I can tell that I’ve grown comfortable in my skin now. And just when I think I’ve obtained a really good grasp of who I am, God hits me upside the head with this stuff.

Ask the people that grew up with me and they’ll tell you that I was really quiet. Maybe sometimes I still am? At any rate, scriptures like these make me feel like maybe I say too much sometimes. Particularly when I write this blog and get responses that lead me to debate about some of these issues. I suppose that it just goes with the territory, but still… doesn’t make it easy for someone who, deep down, is quite reserved.

I suppose that’s the point of reading God’s Word. It really IS alive. It speaks to us and tells us when we need to tone it down a notch or crank it up a bit. I can’t help but think that all these minor tweaks along the way are what will surely bring me closer to who I am in Him.
