Lent is a time spent by Christians, or Christ followers, preparing our hearts for Easter.

Should prayers always be positive? No way, often they are negative, and that is okay. But there are times when the Bible commands us to be positive, and that, too, is for our good.

The overwhelming world is nothing compared to faith and trust in God. It is not by our own merit or what we can do; it is through the grace of God that we can face any circumstance that the world throws at us.

 The Bible talks about several different angel types, but is there an angel hierarchy we know of?

Jesus sets us free from our self-centeredness. He frees us from the power of sin in our lives. He frees us from the captivity that Satan has upon us, and he frees us from cultural captivity. Ultimately setting us free to be in union with Him.

Rather than making our lives easier, we resist Satan in order to make our walk with Jesus more meaningful. Following Christ with a zealous pursuit is the same as resisting the devil. The devil cannot dwell with God.

With that line of thinking, we must pose a question: if we are without God, then we are also without what else? Peace, love, life, hope. With God, we have all of that and much more.

The meaning is that there will be receiving, finding, and opening of doors for the one who asks, seeks, and knocks according to God’s will. Our part is to be open with God; his part is to give what he alone knows is best to give.

We can walk through any darkness if the Lord is our shepherd. What this Psalm tells us is that there is no place so dark where God is not present with you. There is no depth of darkness where he does not traverse.

In our spiritual failings, we might become worn out and need to rest. However, when we realize that God loves us and has provided us a life with purpose, triumph comes as we rely on the Lord in our relationship with him.

We can find strength from the truth that His word never changes. We can find faith over the stronghold of fear that tries to defeat us in overwhelming worry. We have an anchor in Jesus to hold us secure in changing times.

Christianity as we know it would look hugely different if not for Constantine the Great. But were the changes he brought ultimately positive ones?

We learn from this story that God is all-powerful. He is able to turn the heart of kings. This is what he says about Pharaoh — that he would be an instrument by which God would display His power. Yes, he is more powerful than their captor.

A community that is firmly fixed in both truth and the love of Christ is the kingdom that Jesus is building. And it is this which the synagogue of Satan, regardless of any ethnic markers, is aimed at destroying.

Praying for perseverance, especially before we enter into a trial, sets us up to seek faith instead of bending to fear. It reminds us that we have a God that is near instead of swaying to the lie that we are battling our trials alone.

This means that Jesus is saying He and God are in unity. Rather than declaring they are the same being or person, Jesus is saying they are the same essence, the same power, the same nature, and have the same intentions.

All people will experience hard times in this life, but as believers, we have hope for the future. In eternity with the Lord, we will no longer have to fear hard times because everything will be made perfect.

To put it even more simply, “prayer works.” Not in the way of making God somehow indebted to us or forced to meet our demands, but as a righteous person prays, a gracious God hears and acts.
