Walk the Talk

Psalm 78:4 (NIV®)

We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.

God expects us to help our children and grandchildren gain momentum in their faith. It’s not really a hard thing to do because kids are clever, and they know what matters to us. We teach a powerful lesson when we express gratitude for what we have seen God do and share our anticipation for what He will do in the future. However, if we say to our children, “God should be the most important thing in your life,” but they see us spending most of our time talking about sports or hobbies, they are clever enough to see the discrepancy in that. Those other things are not evil, but our children should be able to easily see that they are secondary to the enthusiasm that we cultivate for the things of God.

THINK ABOUT IT

How do the young people in your life see you spending your time and resources? What do you talk about when you are with them? What lessons are they learning about your priorities?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing me with the choice to exalt Your name in my home and in the public arena. I commit my time and resources to help advance Your Kingdom. Thank You for the trials of life that draw me closer to You and make me more useful for Your purposes. I humbly ask that none of my days would be wasted and that You would direct my steps. May the days of my life honor You alone. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
