STANDING FOR THE CHURCH
He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
Have you ever wondered why I sometimes write “church” and at other times “Church”? A “church” is a particular Christian group or the religious services they hold or the building where they meet. “Church” with a capital C is not limited to one congregation or building. It’s the universal Church made up of every individual who has a relationship with Jesus of Nazareth as Lord and Christ. It’s not about architecture, or music, or the style of the presenter, or a translation of the Bible. The Church is about the body of Christ helping men and women and boys and girls have a relationship with Jesus. If a group is not endeavoring to help people have a relationship with Jesus of Nazareth as Lord and Christ, it’s not Church―it doesn’t matter what the sign says or even what the people who gather there imagine themselves to be. From a biblical perspective, the truth about Jesus is the defining characteristic of Church. Jesus is the head of the Church, and every local body of believers should want to give Him supremacy in everything they do. Make a decision today to support and pray for the Church. It will bring good things to you!
Heavenly Father, thank You for the Church, the body of Christ in every generation. Thank You for the men and women who have gone before me, preaching and teaching and extending Your Kingdom one person at a time. Strengthen my brothers and sisters in Christ around the world who are facing persecution for Your name. Come soon, Lord Jesus! It’s in His name I pray, amen.
