Sin is Not My Master - Today with Allen Jackson - November 17, 2017

SIN IS NOT MY MASTER

Romans 6:14

For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

Christians struggle with sin. Scripture says even Jesus was tempted. We live in a sin-filled world, and it tempts us because it looks good. But this verse says sin isn’t our master. There may have been a sin problem in your family, but there is an authority at work on your behalf that says sin cannot be your master. That’s good news. But we’re not just talking about our own internal struggles with sin. We live in a sinful world, and the ungodliness in others touches our lives. Jesus certainly suffered because of the sinful actions of others. We too suffer unjustly and inappropriately because sin flourished and still flourishes in our world. It may influence your life or even feel like it has directed your life, but it can’t master your life because there’s an authority at work on your behalf. You will not defeat sin in your life with your own self-discipline, with your self-will, or with your strength of character. That’s why it’s important to know the authority over sin that God has made available to you and claim the promise that sin will not be your master.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Your power is greater than any power on the earth. Thank You that sin is not my master. Thank You for the authority You have given me over it in Jesus’ name. Thank You that it may touch my life but it does not rule my life. You are a great Deliverer, and greatly to be praised. In Jesus’ name, amen.
