Reflect God

Psalm 69:6

May those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me, O Lord, the LORD Almighty; may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me, O God of Israel.

There’s nothing wrong with making requests of God, asking Him for His intervention or His involvement. Those aren’t childish prayers―they’re normal, important prayers. But here is an expansion of that imagination of what it means to pray: May I never bring disgrace to You, God. May I live in such a way that I don’t bring shame to Your cause. Often, our prayer agenda is, “God, I want You to honor me, promote me, lift me up, set me free, bring something to me―and could You hurry up, please?” And here we’re being asked to imagine that our agenda in life is to honor God and never do anything that would cause Him embarrassment. In the context of your work, your marriage, your relationships, your discretionary time, live in a way that will honor God.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the great honor of bearing the name of Jesus. I repent for demanding my own way. May I live in such a way that my life reflects Your faithfulness. May I conduct myself in a way that people will know I am His friend. For it’s in His name I pray, amen.
