Prayer Makes a Difference

Acts 4:29-31 (NIV®)

“Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

The Book of Acts is the story of the church as it emerged after Jesus’ ascension. They were under a great deal of scrutiny, and Peter and John had been brought before the ruling council and ordered to stop talking about Jesus. After they were released they went to their people to give a report, and then they prayed. This passage includes the end of their prayer. And then we see what happened: Their meeting place began to shake, they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God boldly. The sequence is very clear: prayer, shaking, anointing, boldness. Prayer makes a difference! Cultivate the habit of considering your life and the lives of those around you, then acknowledge the times when prayer has made a difference. The world is hungry for news of God’s goodness, and answered prayers are a great starting point for a conversation about what He has done for you.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You that You hear my prayers. I choose to cultivate a consistent prayer life, and I invite Your Holy Spirit to guide me. I thank You for the times You have answered my prayers and made a difference in the lives of others. Give me boldness to pray with those in my sphere of influence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
