OBEDIENCE TO THE TRUTH
The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever.
This passage says there are two categories of understanding regarding spiritual matters—those things that are unknown to us, that God has held to Himself, and those things that are revealed. We will never know everything. We cannot study enough to discern something that God has said He’s not going to make known. One example is the Bible says no person knows the day or the hour when Jesus will return. There are those who refuse to believe that—they are sure they have it figured out—and one group or another makes the news every few years as they sit and watch the clock. So if somebody tells you they know the day, what should you do? My suggestion would be to smile, then turn around and run in the other direction, because they are confused, deceived, or manipulative. There are many things that God has revealed to us, however, and I find that my plate stays pretty full just trying to keep up with those things. The great wisdom in dealing with the Word of God is not in mastering the nuances and the subtleties; it’s in being obedient to the truth that you know.
Heavenly Father, how gracious You are to reveal any of Your plans and purposes to me. As I navigate this life, help me to not be distracted by the things I don’t understand. Instead, help me to be obedient to the Truth I know. Bring to my mind any place that I need to give attention. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
