John 2:3-5 (NIV®)
When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” “Dear woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
This story is set at the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. He and His mother and His disciples were at a wedding in Cana, and something embarrassing happened: the hosts ran out of wine. I don’t know all that Mary knew about Jesus, but she knew that it wasn’t just business as usual with Him because nothing had been since she had said yes to God all those years ago. So Mary informed Jesus of the situation then turned to the servants and said, “Do whatever he tells you.” I can just see the gleam in her eye as she sat back to watch what would happen. Jesus told the servants to fill six large jars with water, and soon the host was impressing his guests with “choice wine. Mary’s “whatever” shows a faith that is transformational, a faith that takes the boundaries of our lives and makes them doorways of possibility. My advice on cooperating with Jesus is to just do whatever He tells you.Because when you say yes to Jesus, it changes things.
Heavenly Father, thank You for this day. Thank You for Your great love that knows no end. Thank You for being my Provider who wants to bless me in ways I cannot imagine. Lord, give me a “whatever faith” that turns boundaries into doorways of possibility. Show me Your plan for my days in the earth, that I might walk in Your ways. In Jesus’ name, amen.
