GET WITH HIS PLAN

Luke 19:41-44

As he [Jesus] approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you . . . had only known on this day what would bring you peace―but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

I wish we could meet today on the Mount of Olives and walk down the hill together. About halfway down, the city of Jerusalem sprawls before you, and you can see the wall of the Temple Mount from the first century. Jesus was making that same walk when He stopped and began to weep over the city. He wasn’t weeping because of His own pain or because of the horror about to befall Him. He was weeping because of the consequences that were coming to those people because they had rejected Him. Forty years later the Romans built a siege ramp and destroyed the city of Jerusalem, and that embankment is still there. We often don’t recognize that when we push the Lord away, we’re choosing the consequences of ungodliness. And when we seek Him and His purposes, we’re choosing a life of blessing. Get in line to receive the blessings of the Lord.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for providentially maintaining the embankment around the city wall of Jerusalem—a sign to me of Jesus’ words fulfilled. I want to be a person who cooperates with your plan for my life. Help me to see where I push back or ignore Your promptings and give me courage to cooperate with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
