Cultivate Repentance - Today with Allen Jackson - October 7

Cultivate Repentance

Psalm 51:1-3 (NIV®)

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

One of the reasons the church in our culture has been so ineffective and has forfeited so much influence is that we imagine everyone else is in the wrong and needs to repent. We are reluctant to say, “I’ve done wrong. I’m a sinner. Have mercy on me.” Repentance needs to start in the Church. A good place to begin is by reading Psalm 51. It’s David’s prayer of repentance after his sin was exposed, and it will give us some lines, phrases, and simple expressions of repentance. Let’s begin today making repentance a part of our routine.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I choose to be like David and make repentance a familiar practice in my life. I repent now for all of the places I’ve fallen short of Your purposes for my life. Specifically, I repent for ___________________. I ask You to forgive me, and I receive Your forgiveness. Thank You. Help me to turn from it and choose Your path for my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
