Cultivate Hope - Today with Allen Jackson - October 15

CULTIVATE HOPE

Psalm 31:24 (NIV®)

Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.

I never thought about hope requiring strength and courage, but this verse says to be a person of hope will require both of those things. The Hebrew word that’s translated “hope” in this verse is translated “wait” elsewhere in the Old Testament, so there’s a connection between hoping in the Lord and waiting on the Lord. Hope has fallen on hard times in many segments of Christianity because it’s seen as an expression of weakness and uncertainty. But I believe hope is the insulation that protects and strengthens our faith. Faith is about now, and hope is about what we anticipate coming. Sometimes hope will require a lot of focus and determination from us, but it is worth the effort to cultivate it in our lives.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I thank You that You watch over my future. I am sorry for the times I have put my hope in places other than You. May my hope in You be more real to me than the anxiety and stress that are a part of life in the earth. Today I choose to be strong and take heart and hope in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
