Time with God - June 14

The Bible warns of a catastrophic day when God's wrath will be unleashed upon the wicked, threatening to destroy all who have rebelled against Him. As believers, we can take comfort in knowing that Jesus has already borne the full weight of God's righteous anger for our sins, but those without Christ will face an unimaginable reckoning on judgment day.

Isaiah 13:6-9

“Wail, for the day of the Lord is near; as destruction from the Almighty it will come! Therefore all hands will be feeble, and every human heart will melt. They will be dismayed: pangs and agony will seize them; they will be in anguish like a woman in labor. They will look aghast at one another; their faces will be aflame. Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it.”

God is very angry about sin!

God has offered us mercy when we deserved judgment; he gives us grace when we are in a hopeless place; his loving-kindness toward us as his children is constant. And it is right for God’s loving nature to be our focus.

But sometimes this focus causes us to think of God as only gentle, and he’s not. Today God wants you to know that the anger of God against the sinful rebellion of people is enormous. It’s building up as if it’s being held back by the dam of God’s grace. But the day will come when all of God’s anger is released on those whose lives are against him.

For us who are believers, God has already released his righteous anger on Jesus Christ who took our sins on himself. We won’t face his anger. But it will be terrible for those without Christ.
