Proverbs 3:11-12

“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.”

Look for the opportunity to grow spiritually in every circumstance of your life!

My youngest boy plays soccer. I remember one week, early in his training, the coach noticed that he wasn’t planting his left foot in the best place to kick the ball with power. The coach had his assistant take over the team training and spent about five minutes with my son, helping him get the right kicking technique.

As the coach went back to training the team, my boy’s shoulders slumped and his head hung down. He thought it was a very negative thing that had happened to him. He didn’t realise what a gift that coach had given him by spending extra time with him on his technique.

When God sends tough times your way, or uses someone to reprove you, don’t get depressed about it. Rather, say “Lord, thank you for this chance to grow. How can I learn to trust you more, or know you more deeply, or honour you before others more clearly?”

So “don’t be weary of his reproof”; God delights in you! He corrects you to help you reach the goals he has for you.  God wants you to know that even hard times can be an expression of his love.
