Time with God - December 30

Focusing on what truly matters in life can be a daunting task, but understanding the difference between fleeting earthly concerns and eternal spiritual pursuits is crucial for making informed decisions about one's priorities. By examining two lists of temporal and eternal values, individuals can gain clarity on where their focus should lie, ultimately aligning their lives with God's will and securing a brighter future.

Wednesday 30th December

2 Corinthians 4:18

“We look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

Has my life been focused on the right things over the past year? What am I focusing on so far this year?

What things are not eternal? Grades, jobs, money, promotions, winning, losing, travel, reality television, cars, computers, sound systems, clothes, physical appearance, redundancy, houses, iPods, sex, popularity, shoes, books.

What things are eternal? God, your spouse, your kids, your parents, your relationship with God, heaven, hell, God’s Word, the spiritual impact of your ministry to others, the influence of your love in someone else’s life, the life-change of someone putting their faith in Jesus Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit through you.

Read those two lists again, then read the verse again, then think about your life, then listen to God. What is God saying to you today?

You know that you get to choose whether your life will be focused on now or on eternity. If you don’t make a conscious choice, your sin-nature will make the unconscious choice for you to focus on the here and now.

God wants you to recognise the path you are on and make a conscious choice to live for the things that really matter. The second list.
