November 21, 2025 – Spring Cleaning of the Mind
Sermon: 1861 How to Control Your Thought Life, Part 1
Pray Over This
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Ponder This
The other day, Joyce and I walked out in the garage and she said, “We’ve got to clean out the utility room.” So we went through and said, “Now this we’ll save, this we’ll pitch, this we’ll give away.” Have you ever done that? What an experience that is! When Christ takes control of our thought life, that is the picture for us. Jesus is doing that in your mind. Just ask, “Come on in, Lord. Throw this out. Get rid of that. And tell me what to keep.” He will do that. Jesus needs to do regular spring cleaning in your heart and in your mind. Then you are made new in Christ.
Tonight, before you go to bed, your mind can be clean. Then each day you can continue to let Christ in to do that work instead of falling back on your old patterns of life. Don’t ever get the idea that it’s too late for you or that you can’t get your heart and your mind clean. It can be absolutely cleansed. It can be continually cleansed by letting Christ in and allowing Him to change your heart and mind.
What are some things that are harmful or not God-honoring in your thought life? What have you tried to do to fix those things in the past?
How can you embrace a new thought life in Christ? What are some things that you can do that remind you to stay in this new way of life?
Practice This
Ask to hear someone’s testimony about how God changed thoughts as those thoughts were surrendered to Him.
