Broken Trust
By Rick Boxx
January 11, 2011

According to a Wall Street Journal article, Chris Hanson is a 27 year old real estate investor who admits he can easily make his loan payment, but recently decided to quit paying his home loan.

Mr. Hanson said he felt little moral obligation to make his payments, because banks' shoddy lending practices were responsible for our housing troubles. In my opinion, Mr. Hanson is rationalizing his behavior.

As a former banker, it concerns me to see people shifting blame for their own lack of morality. Banks will be forced to curtail lending even further if people like Mr. Hanson continue to violate their trust.

Psalm 37:21 teaches, "The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously." If you make a promise to pay, honor it.
