Dawn of Grace

“I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me would not remain in darkness.” John 12:46 (CSB)
For as long as I can remember, my eyes have been drawn to the sky, forever gazing into the wonder draped across the canvas above: bowed promise after the rain, glory aflame as the sun melts to sleep, glitter aglow in the night. But it’s the sunrise that has my heart, with its radiant hope lighting up the dark as the lantern in the sky births another day.
How fitting that Jesus — the Lamb of God — is also described as light in Scripture. In some of His last earthly words, Jesus said, “I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me would not remain in darkness” (John 12:46).
Hundreds of years before, the prophet Malachi foretold that the Messiah would come as the “sun of righteousness” (Malachi 4:2, CSB), and then Jesus, the Light of the world, stood in His people’s midst. The dawn of the new covenant of grace had arrived.
And, oh, how Jesus longed for His cherished people to believe in Him! He declared: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6, CSB).
Jesus is not only a light on earth now, but the book of Revelation tells us one day, when everything is made new, the city of God will “not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb” (Revelation 21:23, CSB).
Dear friend, the Lamb of God became the Light of the world and will be the Lamp of heaven, stepping across the threshold of humanity to garner grace for us with His precious life! And that grace does not expire. No darkness of this world has the power to overshadow Jesus’ eternal light, for even today, His grace envelops us. Belief in Jesus Christ as Lord is our way to life with God.
Not only does Jesus save us into eternal life with God, but every day, He also saves us from the folly of our humanity. Take heart, friend, for even when we slip and stumble in the dark, as we return to His Word and walk in the light of His example, His grace forever flows.
Oh, that the Son would have our hearts — that we’d gaze into the wonder of His ways as we seek to live in this world yet not of it. For the dawn of redemption rises in our midst each day, birthing new mercies and fresh strength as His radiant grace drapes across the canvas of our lives.
Dear Lord, thank You for the stunning gift of Your grace. Please guide my steps as I seek to follow Your ways. I love You, Lord. Thank You for being the faithful Light of my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
